Is it time for Leeds United manager Marco Bielsa to make a change in attack?

Leeds United have enjoyed a fantastic start to their Championship campaign and they currently sit at the top of the table after seven games. They have only lost one game so far – a last minute winner for Swansea City – and are well on their way for another promotion push.

In their most recent game they were victorious over newly promoted Barnsley at Oakwell with Eddie Nketiah once again proving the difference as he scored and won a penalty as the Whites won 2-0.

The Arsenal loanee’s latest match-winning cameo came after he replaced Patrick Bamford in the 70th minute of the Yorkshire derby and fans are now calling for him to be handed his first Championship start this weekend.

There are certainly pros for Nketiah to start as Leeds have struggled to break down opposition defences in recent games with goals against Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Barnsley all coming after the hour mark.

Bamford does offer a lot for this Leeds team even when not scoring, but he’s often failed to make a real difference. It would be unfair and slightly harsh to suggest he’s had a poor game on any of those occasions but sometimes he lacks a little composure.

Nketiah and Bamford have both scored four goals but the latter has played a lot more minutes than the loanee and the Arsenal man has netted vital goals for Leeds and provided match winning contributions.

It may be fair to remember that the current plan from manager Marco Bielsa is working with Nketiah being an impact substitute but he has also starred when beginning from the start in the League Cup against Salford City.

The Arsenal striker looks capable of being the 20-goal-a-season striker required for promotion whereas Bamford has never scored more than 17 league goals in a single campaign although his finishing shouldn’t be underestimated either.

It provides quite the conundrum for Bielsa but one he and Leeds’ fans should profit from. With both strikers in form it is of great benefit to the club, no matter who starts.
