Former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka could be set for a return to management.
The Spaniard is being linked with a move to Almeria, as per a report by the Hartlepool Mail.
Karanka, who is 45 years-old, has been available since parting company with Forest in January.
The ex-Atletico Bilbao, Real Madrid and Colorado Rapids defender started his coaching career as assistant manager to Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu before getting his first manager’s job at Middlesbrough in November 2013.
Karanka guided Boro to the Play-Off final in his first full season in charge at the Riverside but his side lost to Norwich City at Wembley. Nevertheless, he did gain promotion to the Premier League in 2016 as runners-up.
Middlesbrough struggled in the top flight during the 2016/17 season and Karanka was, rather harshly, sacked in the March and replaced by his assistant Steve Agnew.
He subsequently returned to the dugout in the second tier with Nottingham Forest in January 2018 but stayed for a just a year at the City Ground and had a win percentage of 30.8%.
Karanka may now test himself in his native Spain with Almeria. They finished 10th in the Spanish Segunda Division last season and are hoping to compete for promotion to La Liga this term. They have recently signed forward Arvin Appiah from Forest for a fee of around £8 million.
